Jim & Tonic East

Skip the gym and head to Jim!

A cheeky drink is a well-deserved indulgence on a Friday night to celebrate the weekend and make it through another week.

If you don’t like crowded pubs or dim, humid bars, then you would love the open setting at Jim & Tonic East while enjoying your drinks with your mates.

Jim & Tonic is located on Stratford High Street, with the Three Mills Wall River right by them.

Jim & Tonic East is not just any pub/bar; it is composed of three segments: The Distillery, The Print House, and The Rum House.

The Distillery is an urban sustainable distillery that produces its own gins and other award-winning spirits in-house.

If you’re curious as to how they distill their own spirits, you can book a tour/tasting session held every Thursday and first Saturday of the month for £25 per person.

The Rum House is an interesting cocktail bar because it is styled as if it was part of the Prohibition Era, where the manufacturing, sale, and consumption of alcohol was banned from 1920 to 1933.

Usually, bars at that time were kept lowkey and hidden, but the Rum House, although hidden behind The Print House, is no secret and serves a wide range of drinks, from interesting cocktail concoctions to neat alcoholic drinks.

The Print House is the most obvious one of the three, and it is where we decided to have our Friday drinks.

Here, they serve food and drinks that are different from the Rum House but also made with their in-house spirits.

We ordered our drinks at the bar counter and went to the outdoor seating pods by the river.

We ordered a rum and coke that was infused with their in-house spiced rum and a good ol’ pint of Guinness.

The rum and coke was not like any other we have tasted before, the spice from the rum was a refreshing kick to the tastebuds and didn’t taste as bitter as most rum would be.

It took a lot of strength to pace myself while drinking it because it was just so good that I could finish it in one go.

We also ordered some small bites to accompany our drinks; we had the Salt and Pepper Squid and their Skin on Fries.

The squid was crispy and had a salty and citrusy tang. It was a good side dish for our drinks, as well as the fries, which were salted to perfection.

It was nice sitting by the river as we got lost in conversation, enjoying the cool breeze from the open air.

As we went on with our Friday night, we felt comfortable as the place was not too loud and wasn’t overcrowded like the pubs in Central. We highly recommend this place if you’re not a fan of crowded pubs but still want to enjoy a drink with your friends or even a date.
