Hackney City Farm
Yes, you heard right, a whole ducking farm in the city!
Only a city as big as London has a place for everyone and that includes farm animals!
We were just exploring the artistic Hackney area, when we hear the bleating of sheep and goats, which comes as odd seeing that the surrounding area is just housing.
As we walked further down the road, we came across the sign that read “Hackney City Farm”.
It comes as a surprise that a farm could be situated in the middle of Hackney and we decided to have a look to see what a city farm is like.
As you enter the gates, there is sustainable refill shop on the right and on the left, a little cafe for a hot drink.
The vibes of these shops really transport you outside of London because it just looks so different from the city buildings.
The place is quiet with the occasional animal noises and the chattering of young families and young adults visiting.
As you walk down the little road, there is a second gate which brings you into the farm.
To enter the farm is free, but it is suggested that you leave some monetary donations as it helps the workers to maintain the farm for the animals.
There were goats, sheep, donkeys, ducks and geese, baby peacocks and chickens. It was a pleasant escapade, stepping out of city life and reconnecting with nature by admiring the animals.
The star of the show was really the Spider piglets that was birthed on the 8th of February.
There was a line to enter the pig pen and observe the little piglets. They were 8 of them basking under the heater and the mother resting with them in the pen.
The piglets look so tiny beside their mother; it was a heartwarming sight to behold.
At the end of the visit, there are sinks that allow you to wash your hands before going back to normal life (it is recommended to wash your hands).
We really enjoyed our time in the little farm and we think that it was a refreshing step out of the rushed city vibes into a tranquil little farmland.
It must be especially nice in the Spring/Summer since that’s when things will look more lively and the sun would be out all day.
