6 Stores to visit in Brighton

Hidden Gems that brighten the streets of Brighton!

After visiting Brighton in the Summer, we knew we would return for more, but we didn’t think it would be so soon. However, since we had entered chilly October, we didn’t head toward the beach and the pier. Instead, we decided to explore the colourful streets and little stores that pepper them.

Here are some that we liked:

THE FLOUR POUT BAKERY

This bakery is tucked in the corner of Sydney Street and is not hard to miss with its creative name and simple brand icon.

When you enter the bakery, you can see a range of baked goods, Apricot Slices, Cookies, Breakfast Buns, and Croissants to choose from.

But what caught our eye was the Carrot Cake smeared with a generous helping of cream.

The Carrot Cake slice was expensive, considering the size of the slice they gave us and the amount of care and ingredients that go into it. It was filled with shredded carrots, walnuts, and raisins that made the cake so dense.

The cake was soft and paired with the cream, making it so flavourful; it was one of the best carrot cakes I have ever had (and I really like carrot cake).

The ingredients they use are also locally sourced in Brighton, making the bakery sustainable and worth trying.

KIDS MONSTER

Trouble finding cute Japanese merchandise in London? No worries, Kids Monster has got you covered!

They sell various Sanrio paraphernalia, Studio Ghibli trinkets, and the infamous Sonny Angels.

However, since most important items are from different Asian countries, the prices are higher than expected.

So, if you plan to go there to snatch up some cute items, be sure to be mentally prepared to spend but if not it’s a cute stop to take a look at.

RAINING BOOKS

A haven for book lovers! The store literally has so many pre-loved books that your head would start spinning. When you enter the store, the musty smell of books welcomes you.

The shelves are bursting with books; there are multiple towers of books and tables spread with stacks of them; it is literally a joy to look at.

There are books about art, poetry, novels, and many more for cheap prices, but it can be difficult to find the right book if you’re crunched for time. It definitely is a must-go store for readers!

Papersmiths

Who doesn’t love good stationery? This stationery store has so many aesthetic-looking notebooks, checklists, journals and pens for you to add colours to your work desk.

There are so many different kinds of organising writing pads for people who like scheduling their day with different tasks or for people, who wants to start organising their time better.

It is also a good place to get gifts for friends since everyone loves a good new set of stationery.

Happy Maki

We stumbled upon a hidden vegan sushi restaurant on Sydney Steet when on our food hunt.

The entrance could be easily missed if one is not looking for it. It is a door that leads to a narrow hallway and a flight of stairs that take one to the dining area.

They sell vegan sushi rolls, sushi bowls, and sides for a reasonable price.

Moreover, every time you buy a meal from here, they feed a child in need; a great way to fill your stomach and someone else’s!

The helpings were generous and the proteins such as the sesame “chicken” or “salmon” were very tasty that you don’t feel the difference because the consistency is so similar to the real deal. We recommend to try the mango mayo in your sushi since it is a unique condiment.

It has a sweet touch to the vegetables and protein, leaving you wanting more. We absolutely loved how fresh and filling the meal was!

@amylowdontattoo

This tattoo parlour is hidden within a real estate office, which is pretty funny since tattoos are not normal within an office environment.

This tattoo parlor does dainty little tattoos, and it is based on appointment bookings on Instagram, so you have to book in advance, probably months since it is a popular tattoo parlor despite it being hidden.

When you arrive be sure to text the tattooist, Amy, she will lead you to her studio. Her studio is a clean little space with minimal but aesthetic furniture and decors to make the place cosy and calming for first timers.

She will print your design in different sizes so you can test which one fits your preference. Once you have chosen the preferred size, she will start the inking.

Amy is very gentle and supportive as she inks the design, calming any doubts or fears you might have.

After the process, she will kindly explain how to care for it in the next few days of recovery and even give you a little goodie bag of stickers!

I think it is a good first-time experience for someone getting a tattoo (or watching someone getting tattooed for the first time!).
